The Mississippi River is 2,320 miles (3,734 km) long and stretches through the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana. The Rivers source is Lake Itasca, Minnesota and ends by the water flowing out into the Gulf Of Mexico.

HistoryThe Mississippi River was discovered by a man named Hernando De Soto on the 8th May 1541. Hernando De Soto was born in 1500. In the early 1530s Hernando De Soto while on Francisco Pizzaro expedition De Soto and Francisco conquered Peru. In 1539 he set out for North America and thats when he discovered the Mississippi river. Hernando De Soto died of a fever after crossing the Mississippi River on May 24th 1542.
